Sitting poolside may be nice during the warm months, but according to the National Association of Landscape Professionals (NALP), fall is also a prime season for outdoor activities, and perhaps even the best time to take on landscape projects that can make your outdoor living space adaptable for year-round enjoyment. Add a warmer-than-usual forecast for this fall, and you've got the perfect scenario to extend your outdoor entertaining activities throughout the entire season.
The NALP put together its official list of the top five landscape trends for fall 2017, based on the expertise of landscape professionals from a variety of regions at the forefront of outdoor design. Check out the hottest (or, shall we say coolest) trends below, as featured by some of Engel & Völkers' most in-season properties. Click here to view the NALP's full trend piece.
1. Technologically advanced fire features
Stay cozy with the click of a button. High-tech fireplaces and fire pits, especially with home automation features, are all the rage.
2. Contemporary twists on classic fall plantings
Venture beyond mums and maples this fall. This season, landscape designers are utilizing clean lines and simple sophistication to group heartier plants together that will last you through the winter months.
3. Lighten Up Landscapes
Days are getting shorter, but that doesn't mean you need to spend your time indoors. Amp up your outdoor lighting so you and your family can safely enjoy your beautiful space.
4. Low-maintenance, natural-looking materials
No one's got time for up-keep! Today's vendors are creating materials that mimic the look of more natural, high-maintenance materials and that are less susceptible to harsh weather conditions.
5. Stunning "interiorscapes"
Bring the outdoors in with the design world's latest "interiorscape" trend. Incorporate outdoor elements inside by creating dramatic focal points with walls of greenery or firewood.
