Engel & Völkers Officially Celebrates its Markham, Ontario Brokerage with Grand Opening Event

More than 100 guests, including Markham Mayor Frank Scarpitti, city councillors, Consul-General of People’s Republic of China representative Jianwei Yu, and CEO of Engel & Völkers North America Anthony Hitt, in attendance

Markham, Ontario – Engel & Völkers, the European-based premium real estate firm, officially celebrated its newest premium brokerage in Markham, Ontario, marking the occasion with a grand opening celebration held at their shop on June 6, 2016 in the city’s central business core (7800 Woodbine Avenue). Led by owner Sophia Hu,the shop is the first Chinese owned Engel & Völkers brokerage in North America. Sophia and her team of expert advisors will serve the diverse Markham community offering services in English, Cantonese, and Mandarin.

The grand opening was attended by over 100 guests including clients, business partners, friends, and special guests Markham Mayor Frank Scarpitti, Consul-General of People’s Republic of China in Toronto representative Jianwei Yu, Engel & Völkers North America CEO Anthony Hitt, Co-Owner of Engel & Völkers Markham Herman Yuan, and Special Olympics Ontario President and CEO Glenn MacDonnell.

The event began with speeches and a ribbon cutting ceremony, which was followed by a presentation of a traditional Cantonese roast pig (“siu yuk”), a Chinese ceremony for business openings as a symbolic offering of good luck.

“The grand opening of Engel & Völkers Markham celebrates a valuable addition to our North American and global networks,” said Hitt. “Sophia and her team are true international experts who have demonstrated the commitment to quality client service that defines the Engel & Völkers culture.”

Markham is the fourth largest community in the Greater Toronto Area and enjoys a rich heritage, outstanding city planning, and a vibrant local economy. In his speech, Mayor Scarpitti praised Sophia and her team’s efforts in attracting local and international buyers to Markham which will continue to add to the diverse economic and cultural landscape.
