“He who loves an old house, never loves in vain.” This quote from 19th century author Isabel La Howe Conant introduces the second edition of “Châteaux * Castles * Mansions”, published by the international luxury real estate firm, Engel & Völkers.
The 200-page hardcover, glossy publication contains pages of premium quality photography that captures lush scenery and breathtaking views of 38 of the most elegant and notable structures among Engel & Völkers portfolio of historic properties. The selection represents the height of historic architecture, design and extraordinary living from12 different countries including the United States. They include the former home of composer Felix Mendelssohn – Barholdy originally built on the edge of the village of Etterzhausen in Germany in 1590; Ommerstien Castle, home to knights and noblemen, which was built in 1772 in Belgium; and the historic Stetson Mansion built in Deland, Florida in 1886 by John B. Stetson, inventor of the iconic Stetson cowboy hat.
“Aside from being a beautiful publication rich in history and architectural detail, this second edition of “Châteaux * Castles * Mansions” represents who we are as a brand,” says Anthony Hitt, Chief Operating Officer of Engel & Völkers North America. “The extremely high level of international recognition, expertise and exclusivity that attract clients who have the means to invest in these rare and invaluable properties, is what we offer in all the markets we serve.”
Recognizing the developing trend in historic real estate sales Engel & Völkers invested resources into a dedicated business segment, providing specialized services for buyers and sellers of historic properties. This second edition of “Châteaux * Castles * Mansions” also includes an interview with the firm’s leading castle expert and manager of Engel & Völkers’ Castles and Manor Houses business segment, Christopher Freiherr Schenk zu Schweinsberg. “The motives behind the use of castles is diverse,” says zu Schweinsberg in offering his expertise and advice for those interested in owning or investing in a historic property. “Like the interested buyers themselves, the reasons vary to a great extent and the best way to make use of a castle depends on the personal preference of the owner.”
